Pettneu am Arlberg

at the foot of the high Riffler - 1250m above sea level

The traffic route of the Arlberg is documented since 1300, Emperor Maximilian liked to hunt for the ibex in the western Tyrol and stayed in the “Schwarzer Adler” in Pettneu. The economic life was dominated by farmers and craftsmen. In the twenties the first skiing and summer tourist arrived and then the tourism really developed until the mid-fifties. Through the construction of the ski lifts at the beginning of the sixties, the winter sport was boosted more and more. To date, the winter tourism set clear and has clearly become a dominant industry. Nevertheless Pettneu remained with his clubs, its culture, its operations and its agriculture, the cozy village at the heart of the Arlberg Stanzertal.
